Dossier
What the Commander is for.
The Commander is the PHC’s starting command-and-control unit, listed with the role “Enhancer.” Unlike the Hyperion or Nemesis, it cannot be recruited from a production building.
Stardock’s July 2026 unit-upgrade preview used the Commander to show how a starter unit can gain health, stronger weapons and even a new offensive drone-bay module. The same video emphasises the risk: if an upgraded unit dies, the investment is gone.
How to use it
- Treat the Commander as a command asset with real combat value, not as expendable line infantry.
- Protect it when the enemy has long-range or aerial burst damage; the published 2,500 health is substantial but not unlimited.
- If you invest in upgrades, build the army around keeping the upgraded platform alive.
How to answer it
- Force the Commander to fight on a flank where its escorts cannot help, then focus it with concentrated anti-armour damage.
- Use the threat of a dive to make the PHC player pull the Commander back, buying space for your own army.
- Do not overcommit to Commander sniping if it leaves your main army exposed to the Hyperion or a counterpush.
What we still do not know
- Whether losing the Commander has any additional penalty beyond losing the unit is not confirmed in the sources used here.
- Upgrade options shown in July 2026 were labelled work in progress and may differ at launch.
