Standards

Editorial policy

The rules behind the labels: what counts as a source, how we handle unknowns, and why a verification date is not decoration.

Purpose

Accuracy before speed. Evidence before volume.

This site exists to help people understand a large, systems-heavy RTS. The editorial standard is designed for that job: primary sources first, explicit uncertainty, and no padding created to chase a keyword.

It is easier to write confidently than correctly. We choose correctly where the public record allows, and label the rest.

01 / Source hierarchy

What counts as evidence.

Tier 1

Official publisher & developer material

The official game site, Steam store page, Stardock announcements, official developer journals, official YouTube videos, press kits, published FAQ, and files or patch notes released by Stardock or Oxide Games.

Tier 2

Independent reporting & developer interviews

Used when it quotes a developer directly, corroborates an official video, or provides context that cannot be obtained from a store page. It is named and linked. It does not override a contradictory primary source.

Tier 3

Community-tracked data

Used only for clearly labelled, non-authoritative details such as an estimated unlock time. Community lists are never used as the sole source for unit stats or mechanics.

02 / Labels

How uncertainty appears on the page.

“Official reveal” means the publisher published the role and/or stats. It does not mean the value will survive a balance patch.

“Official video” means the unit or mechanic was shown in official footage, but a complete stat block was not published.

“Reported from official footage” means an independent outlet summarised the official video. We use it only for information we could corroborate from the video description or publisher material.

“Field analysis” is our strategic interpretation. It is not a developer statement and is not a guarantee of optimal play.

“Not published” means we could not verify a value from an eligible source. We do not fill that gap with a guess.

03 / Updates & corrections

A date must mean something.

“Last verified” means a person reviewed the page’s factual claims against the listed sources. It is not the date a file was saved and it is not reset to look fresh. When a fact changes, we update the claim, the source list and the verification date together. When a page is only republished without a factual review, the date does not change.

During pre-release, we distinguish between the build shown in a video and the launch build. A published stat from February 2026 can be outdated by November. We keep the historical value only when the date is visible and the caveat is clear.

Submit corrections to editors@ashes2.wiki with a public source. We may not reply to every message, but verified corrections are prioritised over new content.

04 / AI assistance

Disclosed, not used as a source.

This project uses AI-assisted drafting, translation, code generation and data structuring. AI is not treated as an authority. Factual claims are checked against named public sources, and unsupported values are removed or labelled. We do not publish invented hands-on experience, fabricated player quotes, fake testing results or synthetic screenshots.

If an error survives our checks, the correction policy above applies. “AI wrote it” is not an excuse.

05 / Images & attribution

Official media, with credit.

The site uses images from the official Ashes of the Singularity II press kit, official Stardock promotional material and the official Steam store page. Images are used for editorial coverage and credited in the footer, source pages and relevant captions. We do not present an official screenshot as original photography, and we do not take artwork from competitor sites.

If a rights holder wants a credit corrected or an asset removed, contact us. We will act promptly.

06 / Advertising & independence

No pay-to-edit.

If display advertising or affiliate links are introduced, they will be labelled and kept separate from editorial judgment. Advertisers do not get input on reviews, rankings, guides or factual claims. The site does not accept payment for a positive assessment.

We do not use fake user reviews, invented playtests, inflated player counts or artificial “trending” labels to attract clicks. A game's popularity is not the same as its quality, and neither is a search ranking.

07 / Contact

Corrections, sources, licensing.
